Product Description The O-1 Bird Dog was the United States Army's response to the need for an aircraft during World War II that can perform an incredible complexity of duties from artillery fire to liaison duties. The two-seat observation aircraft received its name "Bird Dog" out of a naming contest result amongst the Cessna employees. Jack Swayze took inspiration from a gun dog, or as hunters would call it, "Bird Dog" as the 0-1 would hover low and close to observe exploding shells. Cessna fabricated 3,431 0-1 Bird Dogs under Fuji in Japan. This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!.
