First off I would suggest that you give this feeder serious consideration. It may cost more than the typical $20 feeders but you will make back the difference very quickly through savings from wasted seed and seed eaten by squirrels. It's absolutely worth the investment. If you put up a cheaper standard feeder, plan on seeing most of the seed lost to squirrels. The end result with low end feeders will most likely be giving up in frustration over how often you need to refill the feeder and the soaring costs to keep it stocked.I have two bird feeders outside my home office window. One is the Brome 1024 Squirrel Buster Plus Wild Bird Feeder with Cardinal Perch Ring which does an amazing job of preventing squirrels from getting the food and greatly controls waste (seeds falling to the ground). I had a second basic feeder (looks like a little house) and tried adding one of the Squirrel baffles above it but they just push it down and hop on, wasting seed. So I decided that I needed a better bird feeder which could stop squirrels. I found this in the Arundale Mandarin Sky Café.I positioned the feeder as instructed in the enclosed instructions and sat back to watch. Birds took to it quite quickly and I observed several cardinals, finches and sparrows making use of it. Then the squirrels discovered the feeder and started their attempt to get to the seed. They climb down the chain with ease and hang on to it with one foot and reach down to try to get to the seed. Discovering that they can't they let go of the chain and try to inch forward a little and wind up sliding off to the ground below. After numerous attempts, they gave up and have relegated themselves to any seed which falls to the ground. Thus far, it really is Squirrel-proof! I'll report back after a month or two of additional observation. The feeder itself is very well built and designed. It's pretty big and holds a lot of seed which is great! The platform which holds the seed is a nice size and provides enough room for birds to comfortably sit and feed. I like the larger tray which wraps around the feeder as it allows various birds more freedom to move around and feed (compared to the individual slots on the Squirrel Buster feeder which I have) The slots on the Sky Cafe which allow the feed out onto the platform are sized to prevent excess seeds from falling out thus saving on wasted seed. The roof of the feeder is great. It provides enough overhang to shelter the birds and food from the weather and most importantly, is strongly sloped to prevent squirrels from getting a foothold to get to the seed platform. So far I am very happy with this purchase.I absolutely love this feeder. It holds a lot of seed, the tray is big enough for cardinals and bluebirds and it keeps the weather out. Haven’t had a squirrel in it yet! This is my second purchase of this feeder. I only bought a second so I could clean one without disrupting the bird feeding. I have tried many feeders and this one is the only feeder that the squirrels can’t get to, and I have many squirrels in the area. I’m going on about ten years now without seeing one squirrel on it. I love it and so do the birds. I highly recommend it.Great bird feeder for preventing squirrels from getting to the seeds, have watched many, many tries by the squirrels and have not seen any be successful yet, once they let go with their rear feet they slide off. Just hang it so squirrels cannot jump from nearby and be successful, if hanging properly they will not be rewarded with seeds.I was having big time squirrel problems for years because I live next to a woods. The only thing that worked was hot seed but the birds didn't like it either. I bought one of these and at first squirrels were crawling on it but couldn't get much to eat. They finally gave up after about a month. Then I bought 3 more to replace all of the sunflower seed feeders in my yard. (I have 18 feeders of all types) They all work great. Just keep them four feet away from the tree trunk. On trees without a branch I nailed up a 4 ft piece 2x4 and hung it on a hook at the end. Works great. I highly recommend these Sky Cafe feeders. I have Green, Red, Orange and Blue for a little variety in the four corners of my back yard.We had one of these in Colorado years ago that we loved, so I bought another based on our experience with that one when we settled in Missouri. Last night we had a fierce storm that was batting the feeder against a wood support beam. At 3:45am I woke up to the sound of the feeder crashing. My first thought was of buying a new feeder this morning. When I went out, the bottom part was 15 feet from the top, but totally intact! I just reassembled and added fresh food. My birds are happy! This feeder is easy to use and the birds love it!!This is my third or fourth of this feeder since 1991. One destroyed by a bear and one destroyed in 80 mile an hour winds. The other one just got very old after ten or so years. The birds of all kinds love this feeder. I had a few blue jays last year, but they have given up this year. Every other type of smaller birds love this feeder. This summer a younger squirrel figured out how to jump to the feeder. But the older squirrels have a hard time staying on the feeder. Highly recommended.Due to some type of a mix up ??????It took a month to finally arriveLove it but SQUIRRELS DO TOO! Need a BaffleThis is my second one as a windstorm blew down my previous one. I'm happy to have hanging back up again and this time it is very secure! It keeps the seeds nice and dry and holds enough to save on trips to the yard to fill it up. The birds love it too!
